Youth Counselling Service Debuting in Maidstone

Youth Counselling Service Debuting in Maidstone

Youth Counselling Service Debuting in Maidstone

Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind (MMKM) will debut a Youth Counselling Service in Maidstone this May.

The service, led by a Qualified BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) Counsellor, will enable young people between the ages of eleven & eighteen to access one-to-one talking therapies four days a week. The service will be available at Maidstone Community Support Centre on Marsham Street, Maidstone.

Statistics from the Mental Health Foundation show that 50% of mental health problems are established by the age of 14, with 75% established by the age of 24. This proves that early, proactive intervention is vital in preparing young people for the challenges of later life.

Julie Blackmore, MMKM CEO, said the following:

“Youth Counselling provides an early intervention measure that gives children the opportunity to talk about how they feel without the fear of judgement. Speaking to a counsellor, away from their home and school life, can take away some of the pressure. Counselling offers a safe environment for children to express their feelings and understand what may have caused them to feel this way”

Hannah Sampson, BACP Counsellor, said:

“I joined MMKM in December 2018 to provide counselling for secondary school aged children (11-18), once a week. From May 2019 I will be based at Maidstone Community Support Centre and offering sessions over four days a week for MMKM.

I really enjoy working alongside a team of people who share my passion for the mental wellbeing of others. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with them and provide the vulnerable young people in the local community with a counselling service.”

The service will commence from 1stof May 2019 for four days a week. Sessions will cost £45 per hour, with a minimum booking of six sessions required.
